WHAT IS THE CGC CONVERSATIONS JOURNEY?

CGC's Conversations Journey is a distinct approach to bridging enormous communications gaps that hinder and/or limit the capacity of Americans of all races to accurately interpret present-day societal conditions across racial demographics and sectors of society. Our Conversations Journey is primarily focused on bridging important knowledge gaps about this nation's history and evolution, from before its founding to the present day to help individuals, institutions, organizations and companies build the kind of equitable inclusive environments and welcoming spaces for multiracial, multicultural peoples in a 21st century Inclusive America.

WHY?

Since the Civil War, eight generations of Americans have become increasingly less knowledgeable about the role of race in the political and economic struggles that led up to the war and the century of struggles that followed it. We inherited those struggles collectively. If we are to fairly and justly assess present-day conditions of racial equity and trends with empirical data to compare with past conditions, it is imperative that we have sufficient knowledge of the conditions of the past to which we can compare the present in order to better understand the challenges and opportunities we face in changing or sustaining laws, systems, public policies and private sector practices that future generations will inherit. Every sector of society (every industry) inherited the conditions, policies and cultures that were established in previous generations. The efforts across America to reform 20th century institutional and corporate cultures around the ideology of 21st century racial equity have struggled to develop sustainable systemic outcomes with measurable results. We believe we have an approach that can help. Our ongoing track record of success with police departments, K-12 schools, churches, community nonprofits et al supports our belief.

HOW CAN A CONVERSATIONS JOURNEY BENEFIT ME?

Our Conversations Journey can be considered a companion process to racial equity and inclusion efforts or a prerequisite that develops a common ground of knowledge, understanding and empathetic inquiry necessary to establish the most favorable conditions for cohort groups to successfully engage in follow-on programs and training.

Participants in the CGC Conversations Journey can expect the following:

  • Exposure to new fact-based knowledge across America's generational timeline
  • Elevated awareness of the myths and social constructs of race
  • Increased understanding of the foundation of America's founding, establishment of laws, systems, public policies and private sector practices
  • Contextual understanding of today's society through the historical lenses of powerful people who laid the foundations upon which this country was built and those who struggled to reform, redesign and reconstruct it
  • Potential paradigm shift in perspectives
  • Potential discomfort when irrefutable facts contradict long-held beliefs
  • Insightful and empowering economic data and facts about society through 26 generations
  • Practical actionable steps individuals, institutions, organizations and companies can make to produce measurable impact and progress toward societal change at the local level and within individual spheres of influence

WHAT IT IS NOT

Our Conversations Journey is NOT:

  • Critical Race Theory studies
  • Antiracist Training
  • Racial Equity Training
  • DEI Training

CGC does not compete with the listed programs and training. Rather, we complement them. These types of educational programs and training processes can benefit from increased active engagement of participants that have experienced our Conversations Journey. They can also benefit by incorporating CGC's Conversations Journey as part of their programming and training process.

Our Conversations Journey is also NOT:

  • A forum designed for sharing stories of personal experiences
  • A forum designed for lamentation and venting
  • A forum designed for hostile personal accusations
  • A forum designed for correcting others' personal behaviors
  • A forum designed for calling out racial prejudices

Although we provide a safe space for honest, transparent discourse, emotional expressions, and even personal stories, those elements are byproducts of our Conversations Journey process. They are organically introduced into the Conversations Journey environment by participants. They are not integral to our facilitated process. We do recognize, however, that paradigm shifts are hard (for everybody) and we provide a safe space for participants to handle paradigm-shifting knowledge in their own individual ways.
